Re: June 28, 2014 Club Ride

Posted on their facebook page. Copied it over here for everyone to read about this.

I've been blessed over the last few years in making a ton of great friends in the sport of trail riding. Rode with thousands of folks from all over the country and its always a thrill showing them our trails here in Bell County. Hoping that a lot of you can come to the Wounded Warriors Benefit Ride on June 28th as part of the Our Hometown 4 Our Heroes event (click link to RSVP) at the National Guard Armory in Middlesboro. It would mean a lot to me if we can get a big turn out. We will meet at the large parking lot at Southeast Community and Technical College on 30th Street in Middlesboro at 10 AM (make sure to be ready and unloaded by 10:30 AM).

It will be a moderate level ride...not extremely challenging but with some technical spots here and there (novice riders may want to ride with someone else). The ride will be 40 miles or so. Ride is open to ATVs and UTVs and everyone rides at their own risk under KRS 411.190 and will have to sign a waiver before riding. Riders should bring extra gas if needed, food, and drinks. We will stop for lunch by the water. Very scenic ride so bring your camera.

After leaving the college parking lot, we will ride a very short distance to the Armory. There will be a donation bucket there for Wounded Warriors and we just ask folks donate whatever they can. The riders will then join the people doing the marathon and fitness challenge in prayer if they want to, and watch the opening ceremony. After that (should be around 11-11:30) we will get a police escort for a short distance to the woods.

Want to thank the Middlesboro National Guard, Southeast Community College, Mayor Bill Kelley, and the Middlesboro Police Department. And to my buddies Todd Smith and Robby Southern for putting a lot of time into this event!

I've wanted to do a military ride for years and I think Wounded Warriors is about one of the greatest organizations to try and raise money for. I hope a lot of you I've shared the trails can make it down, both our locals and out of state buddies as well. This will be a fantastic ride...mostly all woods riding, creek crossings, and amazing overlooks. Lets see if we can get a BIG turnout for this great cause! Invite all your friends and feel free to share this post.

Look up lodging on Google. Park is nearest Middlesboro Ky. Also Marty's ATV Oasis but it is not in town.

Do we know yet how difficult the ride will be? While the kids are getting much better, we've not had much time to go riding lately and I don't know if we should leave them at home or bring them along on their atvs.

Re: June 28, 2014 Club Ride

Really not sure about the difficulty of the ride as we are not familiar with the trails up there that we will be riding. We will be following a Holler Crawler Club member on a Off Park Ride and from what I can tell it will be a High Moderate Ride. Difficulty is subjective from place to place. I do know that on most of their moderate rides they have suggested the Newbies sit them out. That is all I really know.

Thanks, Rooster. We will leave the kiddos at home, if we are able to go. Gotta see if we can fix the RZR before then. See you soon!

Re: June 28, 2014 Club Ride

Is this an area or park where a helmet is required, yesI know wearing one is always a good idea; reading the rules for this park it references me to a KRS law which states per item #4:

Except for vehicles authorized to operate on a public highway, a person
sixteen (16) years of age or older operating an all-terrain vehicle on public
property shall wear approved protective headgear, in the manner prescribed by
the secretary of the Transportation Cabinet, at all times that the vehicle is in
motion. The approved headgear requirement shall not apply when the operator
of any all-terrain vehicle is engaged in:
(a) Farm or agriculture related activities;
(b) Mining or mining exploration activities;
(c) Logging activities;
(d) Any other business, commercial, or industrial activity; or
(e) Use of that vehicle on private property.

Thus am i on public land? Does all terrain also apply to UTv's since UTV's are not mentioned within

GIP:

Un official response is:

ky state law says youre supposed to wear them and that we highly encourage them after that its up to your own discretion. no one is up there checking this. It is a liability issue.

Re: June 28, 2014 Club Ride

According to Google Maps... here are the directions to the place we are going to meet everyone.

From Knoxville, head north up HWY 75. Take I-75 N to TN-63E/TN-63 Scenic E/US-25W N in Caryville. Take Exit 134 from 1-75 N for 38.2 miles. Merge onto TN-63 E/TN-63 Scenic E/US-25W N continue to follow TN-63E (go 38.0 miles). Continue on E Cumberland Ave. Drive to N 30th Street, 1.9 miles and then turn left onto E Cumberland Ave for 1.6 miles and Turn right onto N 30th Street. SOUTHEAST COMMUNITY and TECHNICAL COLLEGE parking lot should be very near this turn. We should be ready to pull out by 10:30 am eastern time. From here, we will go a short distance to the Armory. We will then get a police escort for a short distance to the woods.

Hope I haven't confused everyone even more.... :)
